China Air Transport Association (CATA) was established on September 9, 2005 under the Chinese relevant laws and regulations, with the registration approved by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China. It is a non-profit national trade organization and legal entity comprising primarily air carriers, enterprises, public institutions and social legal persons of their free will. Up to June 2019, CATA had 3688 members, of which 103 to CATA itself, 3585 to its affiliates. Its competent authority rests with Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC). CATA has been consecutively rated as National 5A Social Organization by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in 2009 and in 2015.

 

The 4th Board of CATA is made up of 29 members, including leadership such as Chairman, Vice Chairmen and Secretary General, with Executive Vice Chairman as its legal person. The Association consists of 6 divisions, i.e. General Administrative and Human Resources Division, Finance Division, Research Division, Business Division, Training Division and External Division. The affiliates of the Association are Air Safety Working Committee, General Aviation Branch, Air Transport Sales Agency Branch, Aviation Fuel Branch, Air Catering Branch, Cabin Crew Committee, Legal Committee, Scientific, Educational and Cultural Committee, Finance and Auditing Committee, Revenue Accounting Working Committee, Aviation Environmental Protection Committee, Cross-Straits Air Transport Exchange Committee and Air Logistics Development Fund Management Committee.

 

CATA’s general working guidelines are to adhere to the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, conscientiously carry out the general work arrangements made by CAAC, and focus its work on facilitating the development of the industry and its members, promoting scientific development and continuous safety, safeguarding members’ rights and interests, maintaining market order, intensifying education, science and technology and increasing cooperation and exchanges. It brings into full play its role in guidance and coordination, support and bridge. CATA aims to make itself a social organization characterized by its research, coordination and service features, in order to make its due contribution to realizing the goal of building China into a civil aviation power. CATA’s goal is to gain trust from the members, support from the government and recognition by the society, and make itself a first-class social organization enjoying a national leading position and international renown.

 

Li Jiaxiang, former CAAC Administrator, and Kong Dong, former General Manager of China National Aviation Holding Company served respectively as Chairman of the 1st Board. Liu Shaoyong, General Manager of China Eastern Air Holding Company served as Chairman of the 2nd Board. Li Jun, former CAAC Deputy Administrator served as Chairman of the 3rd Board and is serving as Chairman of the 4th Board.
